Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Next.js, Node.js, TypeScript) for Tamedia news platform (f/m/d) 80-100%

Make an impact working on our state-of-the-art web front-end platform, delivering tagesanzeiger.ch and all other Tamedia subscription news titles. Join a motivated team of eight developers, help shape our future architecture and grow the team's capabilities. Collaborate closely with the tech lead and product owner on new initiatives.

We are looking for a senior full-stack engineer who will bring the following:
  • Experience with React, Node.js and TypeScript
  • Deep understanding of the full stack: from the browser and CSS on one end, to REST APIs and databases on the other
  • A desire to share your expertise and mentor other team members
  • An ability to engage with business stakeholders, designers and software engineers from other teams to jointly craft the best solutions possible
  • Functional programming mindset is a plus
  • Native App development experience is a plus (iOS, Android or React Native)
About the Product

Our news platform runs on AWS and was relaunched in 2020. The platform was completely rebuilt on a modern tech stack, leveraging TypeScript, React, and the open source Next.js framework for a seamless single-page application experience. Server-side rendering provides a fast initial load and excellent SEO optimization.

The front-end handles a sustained load of 150'000 requests/min, with peaks regularly exceeding 300'000. Thus new features need to be architected in a way that actually scales. It connects to multiple back-end services, some of which are built and run by the team. It is running on Node.js, Express.js and MongoDB and exposes a REST API that is documented with an OpenAPI spec that we generate using TypeScript and tsoa.

In order to iterate rapidly and have new features reach users' hands as quickly as possible, we have a modern CI/CD workflow where we deploy to production multiple times per day. This is achieved by pushing to GitHub, which triggers our CI/CD pipeline that runs our test suite and then deploys to our Kubernetes cluster on AWS. We closely collaborate with our infrastructure team in this area.

About the Team

Our news platform is built in-house, by our international team of smart and talented software engineers (four in Zurich, four in Belgrade). Communication within the team and with other stakeholders is mostly in English. Your place of work is in the heart of Zurich and wherever you work best – you will have the possibility of working partially remotely.
